Along with this physical expansion and an exponential increase in the numbers of men served came an intentional re-envisioning, redesign, and diversification of our program offerings with an emphasis on supporting the whole person. Numerous barriers exist for returning citizens and many are ill-prepared to reenter society due to the lack of support needed for sustainable success.

We provide multiple levels of evidence based interventions and group sessions, case management, therapeutic services, and substance abuse/recovery education. This is all accomplished within a supportive and compassionate community culture on our three acre campus in the north valley of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Grayce Gadson joined the Dismas House as the IPS Supervisor in the Fall of 2022. Previously, she worked at Parker Center as an IPS Employment Specialist & Supervisor. She served as a Cognitive Behavior Instructor & Client Services Coordinator in the TN Department of Corrections prison and jails starting in 2016 with Project Return. As Project Coordinator, she initiated a program under a grant from the Justice Department awarded to the Gilead House in Kokomo, Indiana, called Mentoring Incarcerated Parents under the Second Change Act of 2007.

Since opening in August of 1986, Dismas of Indiana has provided a new beginning to over 500 former prisoners. Dismas has also been home to 94 local Notre Dame, St. Mary’s and Holy Cross students. Since opening, the Indiana Dismas House has been home to over 1,600 returning citizens and over 100 college students. Her volunteer experience includes visiting with men housed in Angola Prison, the Louisiana State Penitentiary, as well as providing free haircuts for individuals at various homeless shelters in the New Orleans area.

For 46 years, Dismas House provided services to returning citizens on Music Row, before relocating in 2020. Since 1974, Father Hickey’s vision has positively impacted countless lives and created ripple effects far beyond the Middle Tennessee community. Our family-like environment gives them the time, the space, and the tools they need to get back on their feet, live and work independently, and enjoy a stable life in the community. Once they are ready, residents then transition to the second program at Dismas Home. In our Transitional Living Program (TLP), they continue to receive group and individual therapy, but are also educated with life skills and heavy case management, aiding in workforce development and housing. We begin with a 90-day treatment program that’s designed to treat the trauma behind substance misuse, allowing residents to process their experiences, develop new strategies, and get physically and mentally healthy.
